At an event in London this week, the founders of a new Moscow-based arbitral institution explained why they hope it will address the concerns of foreign parties about arbitrating in Russia.

The Russian Arbitration Association (RAA) was set up in Moscow in April by a group of 50 international and local law firms, with the objective of providing a transparent and trusted arbitral institution to administer cases in Russia.

Its stated aims are to promote arbitration in Russia and the CIS region, to popularise Russia as a place of arbitration and to promote Russian arbitrators at home and abroad. Its focus will be on international Russia-related disputes, disputes in the CIS region and domestic commercial disputes within Russia.
