Ivan Urzhumov, a counsel in the firm’s Paris office, focuses his practice on international arbitration and cross-border litigation, including asset tracing, debt recovery and fraud litigation.  Ivan’s practice encompasses enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards, setting aside of arbitral awards, taking of evidence abroad and obtaining conservatory measures in support of foreign proceedings. His representative experience includes:

·         Successful representation of a Cyprus-incorporated company in French and US proceedings in view of obtaining attachments and discovery measures in support of a fraud litigation in Cyprus.

·         Acting for a leading Russian bank in matters relating to enforcement of Russian judgments, as well as tracing and recovering assets in the United States, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Netherlands.

·         Successful representation of a BVI company in French court proceedings relating to enforcement of a multi-million arbitral award and the seizure of shareholding rights in a large French telecoms company.

·         Representing a Central-America company in relation to debt recovery court proceedings in Spain, Luxembourg and France involving pierce of corporate veil and allegations of fraud.

As part of his experience in the field of commercial arbitration, Ivan successfully represented a large French electricity player in an ICC arbitration in Switzerland against an Italian electricity trader. He also acted for a European waste management company in two ICC arbitrations, in Paris and Zurich, against German and French logistics service providers. He also advised an international petroleum corporation in the ICC arbitration it brought against an African State, and a Tunisian company in an arbitration in London against an international producer of oil pumping equipment.

He received Masters of Laws from University Pantheon-Sorbonne and Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). He is admitted to the bars of Moscow and Paris and advises clients and pleads in English, French and Russian.
