Doug heads the Forensic Services and Competition Services teams at Smith & Williamson.
Doug has specialised in forensic accounting for over 25 years, acting as quantum expert for claimants, defendants and as Single Joint Expert in:
– UK and cross-border commercial disputes
– professional negligence cases
– personal injury, clinical negligence and fatal accident claims
– matrimonial actions
He has given evidence in the High Court, arbitrations and other tribunals and contributed to the successful resolution of disputes by negotiation and formal mediation. Doug takes a leading and hands-on role in assignments, with limited delegation, enabling him to give credible expert evidence. He has been praised for his calm and “intellectually rigorous approach” to giving expert testimony, with the ability to clearly explain complex accountancy principles in court and in reports.
Doug is a member of the Academy of Experts, Expert Witness Institute and APIL’s expert database. Competition Services Doug has acted in Monitoring Trustee appointments overseeing remedies arising out of merger control cases that have been approved by the European Commission and UK’s Competition & Markets Authority. He has also acted as a quantum expert appointed by the Claimant in pursuit of damages following a decision by the Competition Appeals Tribunal and has been appointed as an expert by a distribution business subjected to a search and freezing order following allegations of unlawful competition.
