Laura M. Brank, the head of Dechert LLP’s Russia practice, has been advising corporations, investment funds, banks, multinational institutions, and high net worth individuals on complex corporate and finance transactions in emerging markets for over two decades. She has provided strategic legal advice to clients on their business activities in Russia and throughout the Former Soviet Union (“FSU”) since 1995 when she first moved to Russia, supervising major local and cross-border M&A, joint venture, and debt and equity financing transactions. She has particular expertise in the life sciences and mining and energy sectors and has advised extensively on TMT and real estate matters.

Laura counsels clients on compliance and sanctions matters and is a sought out speaker on economic sanctions related to Russia. She has written extensively on these subjects, conducted in-house compliance training and has taught courses on economic sanctions at a law school in Moscow. Laura is a graduate of Georgetown University Law School and also obtained a master’s degree from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service in International Business. She sits on the board and the executive committee of the U.S.-Russia Business Council and has lectured at Georgetown University and Columbia University on corporate, compliance and sanctions-related matters. Laura is listed as an arbitrator for financial disputes at the Russian Arbitration Center at the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration. Laura has been ranked by The Legal 500 and Chambers Global since 2007 and is also recognized by Best Lawyers in Russia, Who’s Who Legal and Legal Media Group’s Banking, Finance and Transactional Guide and Guide to the World’s Leading Women in Business Law.
