Two of the cornerstones of Russia's recent reform of her domestic and international commercial arbitration laws are the prevention of abuse in Russian domestic arbitration proceedings and promoting Russia as a venue for international arbitration.
To achieve these goals, the new law implements a modified version of the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration 1985 (as amended in 2006), imposes new regulatory requirements on the administration of Russian arbitration proceedings and introduces new rules for the arbitration of corporate disputes seated in Russia. But will the new law increase the attractiveness of Moscow as a seat of international arbitrations and allow it to rival other established arbitral centres such as London, Paris or Singapore?
