Справочная информация:

The SPBILF, hosted by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, has been held annually since 2011. Support for SPBILF comes from the President of the Russian Federation.

The Forum’s primary mission is to promote ideas related to modernizing the law amidst the global changes.

As preparation gains momentum for the VII SPBILF, we have put a series of conferences in the pipeline to address a number of issues of urgent concern for legal services professionals and for the business community. The agenda addressed by the conferences, and the outputs of the debates will lay down a solid foundation, on which the planners will build as they design roundtables for the Forum’s executive programme in 2017.

In 2016 more than 3 700 participants from 77 countries including 71 official delegations attended 70 business events of the Forum.

The Business Programme of SPBILF 2016 featured over 70 roundtables, conferences and general debates. The Forum took place amid the magnificent historic interiors of the General Staff Building in Palace Square, right in the heart of St. Petersburg.

A special live feed made it possible to follow the events of the Forum anywhere in the world. More than 77,000 online viewers in 58 countries joined the SPBILF physical participants in 2016.

The Forum provided a platform for presenting LF Academy educational project – a resource created under the auspices of the SPBILF for professionals who value their time and are interested in acquiring a unique insight while continuing their current work.

2016’s new project is Legal Forum Live, a series of live on-line broadcasts of a number of Forum’s sessions in more than 30 cities in Russia and CIS.

II Ежегодная Конференция GAR. Стокгольм/2nd Annual GAR Live Stockholm Conference

The Global Arbitration Review and the Russian Arbitration Association,  would like to invite you to the 2nd Annual GAR Live Stockholm Conference which is taking place on Thursday, 27 April 2017 at the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.
This event, chaired by Jakob Ragnwaldh, Mannheimer Swartling and James Hope, Vinge, will bring together leading private practitioners and general counsel to discuss topical issues at the forefront of international arbitration law.

Separated by numerous networking and refreshment breaks, conference topics will include:

Session one: Opening statements – a missed opportunity? Moderated by Sophie Lamb, Latham & Watkins
Arbitration hearings almost invariably start with opening statements, but how are these best delivered? Do counsel make the most of the opportunity they present? Questions the panel are expected to discuss include:

- Short summaries vs detail – do summaries suffice, on the basis that the arbitrators have read all of the documents? Or should statements present the written evidence in the case?
- “Skeleton arguments” – always a necessary addition?
- Best practice – in terms of using PowerPoint slides, core bundles, etc.

Panel:
Pontus Ewerlöf, MAQS
Fredrik Norburg, Norburg & Scherp
Huawei Sun, Zhong Lun Law Firm
Nils Eliasson, Shearman & Sterling

Session two: The GAR Live symposium – Moderated by Jakob Ragnwaldh, Mannheimer Swartling and James Hope, Vinge

Our espresso version of the famous Tylney Hall format.

Session three: What makes a good arbitrator? Moderated by George Bermann, Columbia Law School
Arbitrators frequently comment on how counsel should improve, yet rarely is there an opportunity for constructive feedback in the other direction. Here is your chance to see the shoe on the other foot. What do arbitrators do well, what could they do better, and what qualities make an arbitrator truly stand out?

Drawing on their collective “war stories, the panel will come up with a list of helpful pointers for arbitrators to bear in mind.

Panel:
Rikard Wikström, Roschier
Anna-Maria Tamminen, Hannes Snellman
Hilary Heilbron QC, Brick Court Chambers
Iain McKenny, Vannin Capital
