Dr. Katherine Simpson is an Arbitrator based in London (33 Bedford Row Chambers) and the U.S. (Simpson Dispute Resolution). She has nearly a decade of experience in the resolution of complex international disputes and has served as Tribunal Secretary in nearly 30 cases conducted pursuant to ad hoc(UNCITRAL, 2010) and institutional rules (including the ICSID, ICC, LCIA, DIS, CEAC, DIAC, and SCC Rules). She is well-versed in the arbitration of mining and energy disputes and those involving State parties. As a lawyer admitted to the bars in Maryland and New Jersey (U.S.), she has represented clients in human rights matters.
Dr. Simpson is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School, where she teaches international commercial arbitration and legal writing and analysis. She serves on the Education Committee for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators North American Branch and enjoys coaching the occasional Vis or FDI-moot court team. She earned legal degrees in the U.S. (J.D.) and Germany (LL.M., Dr. iur.), where her doctorate focused on international banking law and legal efforts to reduce poverty through microfinance. She is a U.S. national who speaks English (native) and German (fluent). She is well-versed in common law and civil law approaches to dispute resolution.
