Ed focuses his practice on international commercial litigation and arbitration in which he is board-certified by the Florida Bar. He brings wide experience in litigating and arbitrating disputes involving various issues, including distribution agreements, joint venture agreements, and energy and construction disputes, and he has handled numerous investor-state arbitral disputes. In addition, Ed serves as an arbitrator, and is a member of the commercial panel of arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
An accomplished appellate lawyer, Ed has handled over 100 appeals in state and federal courts including the U.S. Supreme Court. Ed served as the inaugural chair of the Florida Bar Board Certification Committee for International Litigation and Arbitration. Ed had been fundamental in having the Florida Bar adopt this new certification, thought to be the first to recognize that area as board-certified specialty. Ed also serves as Revenue Officer of the Section of International Law of the American Bar Association, and formerly served as the Division Director for Disputes. He is a former co-chair of the International Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Committees of the Section of Litigation of the ABA. He is the former chair of the Florida Bar International Law Section and of the Appellate Rules Committee as well. Ed received the Best Lawyers™ 2015 International Arbitration - Commercial "Lawyer of the Year" award in Miami, has been awarded Legal Luminary in International by the Dade County Bar Association, and is noted in Legal 500 USA and Legal 500 Latin America.
Ed is a 1990 graduate of the University of Florida College of Law (Order of the Coif and valedictorian), where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Florida Law Review. Ed has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Miami International Arbitration Society.
